Emperor Penguin paperweight from Royal Crown Derby. The Emperor Penguin is the largest of the seventeen species of Penguin. This flightless bird certainly can 'fly' beneath the surface of the Antarctic Seas. The bird's graceful and elegant movements through the water are captured beautifully in the surface decoration on the back of this paperweight. The swirls, bubbles and patterns of light within the water are imitated using a combination of in-glaze and on-glaze blues with highlights of gold. The Penguin is finished with tiny pale blue fish shimmering around the base. Modeled by Mark Delf. Designed by Jane James. Made in England.
